Servicing Extinguishers

Fire Extinguishers should be checked/inspected on a regular basis as required by your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), such as the fire marshal. Most likely, they will follow a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards as the minimum requirements, but may require additional levels of inspection and maintenance, so be sure to check beforehand.

WARNING: Only "Qualified Personnel" should attempt to service or repair any fire extinguisher.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), requires that any person who services fire extinguishers be certified in doing so by passing a test. The test must be based on the manual developed by the NFPA. The person who is certified will be given appropriate documentation that should be available upon request. Certified persons shall have the necessary tools and manuals needed to service fire extinguishers.
